". . . Written in Egypt during the years 1833-1835 . . . With eighty illustrations and sixteen full-page engravings, and [a] biographical notice of the author"

Without beng described as such, this book has the appearance of being a copy of a Minerva edition, with the biographical introduction signed by G T B[?ettany].

Blue cloth boards, gilt design and lettering to spine and front, with additional blind-embossed design to front. The cover corners and spine are bumped and rubbed. The binding is cracked after the front endpaper and between two or three sections, but the hinges and overall binding are sound. Plain navy endpapers with a signature, place and year (1912) on the front free endpaper. The frontispiece has its tissue guard intact and there are a further 15 pages of plates with numerous illustrations in the text derived from the author's own drawings. xxiv + 552 pages of text including index. There are pen underlinings and marginal marks, sometimes a line or two, sometimes longer, on perhaps forty text pages.
