Although not formally indexed, the contents pages of both volumes provide a chronological directory to the contents.
Although Bird's Annals have been published in facsimile form, copies of the original editions remain difficult to find, especially in the good condition of this set.
Both volumes have been recased in their original green cloth-boards, with some sections resewn and the addition of new Skivertex spines and new endpapers. The gilt spine lettering of Vol I is from a new block, while the orginal spine panel of Vol II has been pasted down.
The boards and cover edges of Vol I are extensively rubbed, with some early page edges lightly torn and the top edge of the middle leaves chipped - though with no loss of text - and also some foxing early and late as well as on some other leaves. Vol II is more lightly rubbed, there are no page flaws, and foxing is light and limited to early and late leaves.
The binding of both volumes is firm.
Well repaired, this is now an excellent and collectable set of the 125-year-old original edition.
