"This important work gives an account of the Diamond Fields and the Diamond Mines in S. Africa as well as the Witwatersrand and de Kaap Gold Fields" (Frankels' sales catalogue note, c. 1950). Struben (1840- 1915) was one of the first to discover the mineral wealth of the Rand, President of the Orange Free State, an adventurer and big game hunter, a friend and neighbour of Rudyard Kipling, and the author of the posthumous Recollections of Adventures 1850-1911. Reunert, a mining engineer, was the founder, with Otto Lenz, of the engineering firm Reunert and Lenz at Johannesburg (1888). A Near Fine copy.
