The long illustrated feature on the translation of the Bible into Afrikaans was an advance celebration of the publication of the first Afrikaans Bible on 5 June 1933.
There are photographs of the six "original translators" of 1917 (these included Dr Tobie Muller of Philippolis, who die in the flu epidemic a year later when still in his thirties) and the five "final translators", who included the veteran Dr J D Kestell.
Complementing the feature were a leader article and three columns of contributions from such luminaraies as J H Hofmeyr, D F Malan, N J van der Merwe, E C Pienaar, M C Botha, F S Malan and F X Roome.
Other news of the day was the arrival of the Wallabies in South Africa.
There was also a Reuter despatch with a photograph of Adolf Hitler recording a big win at the polls in Danzig for the Nazi party, with three times as many seats as the Social Democrats in second place. The correspondent noted: (1) that in association with two friendly small parties the Nazi party would have the two-thirds majority necessary to adopt any new measure; (2) that Hitler claimed that "the Jewish problem" would play no role in Danzig; and (3) that the Nazi party would try to reach agreement with Poland but in any event needed changes to be made to the Polish Corridor.
