A classic on the Mahdi's Rebellion in the Sudan in the latter portion of the 19th century, with chapters on the massacre of Billy Hicks' Egyptian army, the Fall of Khartoum in which Chinese Gordon was killed, the siege of Darfur, etc. Slatin was captured and tortured by the Mahdi's forces, and describes his experiences in great detail.
