The binding and maps have been well repaired and the endpapers and ribbon marker renewed, making this an attractive copy of one of the more sought-after South African reference books published before the Anglo-Boer War.
The bumped corners of the brown cloth-boards remain. For the rest, the covers are now excellent, the large folding map bound in next to the title-page is now much improved and the xxx + 568 pp of errata, prelims, illustrated text + 25 other inserted maps and plates are in near very good condition, unmarked and undiscoloured. There is no advertising and the book is not indexed, although the chapter summaries at the front make reference easy for the reader.
