The charm of this small book of 199 pp is the inside information the author, who was a game ranger for nearly 50 years, is able to communicate to the reader in an easy but polished style. The book is divided into 18 short tales, in many of which the author almost attributes human qualities to the minds of the various animal species. The sections are enhanced by Penny Shipley\'s attractive line drawings in the text.
The unclipped dustjacket (21s) is chipped in two places but with no loss of material. The grey paper-board covers, black to the spine, have a matching chip at the head of the spine. The binding is tight and the endpapers and text are unmarked and undiscoloured.
