Genuine leaf from a Book of Hours, a Prayer Book for lay use in private or family devotions. Written by hand ca. 1500. Latin text written in a gothic hand in brown ink with ruling in red. One-quarter border of gold leaf with rich colors in tempera. Versal initials in liquid gold on a ground of rust tempera with gold tracery. Two-line initial “B” in liquid gold operns Psalm 41, “Beatus qui intelligit....” (Blessed is he that considereth the poor). Size: 6 5/8 x 4 1/2 inches.
