Lilac cloth-boards with a blind (vignette) portrait, decoration and author's name in black to the upper panel and gilt lettering to the spine, which is heavily rubbed; plain endpapers, which are lightly sunned; title-page and other prelims, including a frontispiece portrait; but no other illustrations in the 168 pp of text 

• There is an extensive (24 pp) list of S W Partridge's other publications at the back: looking back, publishers' lists, especially those of the major players (of whick Partridge was not one) often give collectors new leads 

Apart from the spine-rubbing and sunned endpapers, this is a very good copy overall of the first (119-year-old) edition - complete, tightly bound; and with unmarked and undiscoloured contents
