'Die Pad Van Suid Afrika' relates to the commemorations and festivities surrounding the annual Day of the Vow and the deliverence of the Afrikaans people. 1938 is of high significance as it is the centenary of the Battle of Blood River, the central event in their creation mythology, which demonstrated God's intervention, and hence the Afrikaan's divine right to exist as an independent people.
