The blue cloth-boards, faded silver letting to the spine, are rubbed at the edges. The free endpapers - the first of which is filled with a long inscription - are sunned in register with the flaps of the dustjacket, which is missing from this copy. The binding has begin to loosen, but there are no cracks. The frontispiece + ix + 140 pp of text include 37 line drawings and 33 photographs and there are in addition 10 inserted folding charts. Coated paper has been used throughout and has remained bright and undiscoloured.
