Small 4to (150 x 120 mm); recent brown cloth, lettered in black on spine; new endpapers; pp. (xvi) + 421; frontis. portrait; several photographic plates, incl. folding, and photographs in text. Occasional light soiling; some spotting to page edges. Very good externally; good to very good overall. (Mendelssohn I, p. 675; SABIB 2, p. 489) "The history of the corps for fifty years, from its formation in 1856 to the year 1906, together with a large number of interesting views and portraits having reference to the town of Port Elizabeth and the volunteer movement. Pp. 298-353 deal with the services of the force during the South African War, 1899-1902." - Mendelssohn. The history is of particular value in its coverage of the Frontier Wars.
