On the flyleaf are the words "Vir John du Toit, Van 'n broeder in verdrukking, Quintus van Rooyen". The book (translation: "Rugby in Chains") is also in Afrikaans.
In his Foreword, the Sprigbok coach, writes (translated) that the author (then the chief rugby writer of "Die Beeld") has over the years earned the respect of players, officials and readers with his integrity, his knowledge of the game and his amazing capacity for remembering the statistics and details of matches.
The dustjacket is chipped at the top of the spine. The white paper-boards are printed in black on all three faces. Both endpapers carry a photograph, names and facsimile signatures of the 33 members of Andy Leslie's 1976 New Zealand rugby team in South Africa. The binding is tight. The vii + 247 text pp + many inserted plates of b/w photographs by photographers of Van Rooyen's newspaper are unmarked, though the text pages have started to discolour towards the edges.
