Over its long period of publication (from 1956 to at least 1988) - originally in separate English and Afrikaans editions, and later in other European languages as well - this monthly achieved a wide circulation. This may have been because its successive civil service editors avoided typical "Department of Information" propaganda and instead concentrated on the country's people, places and industrial and artistic achievements.
