This 25-year-old book allows the botanical and horticultural student to see the gardens as they were before the plan to eliminate exotics was developed. The wild part of the garden - which was the masterpiece of the late Joane Pim - was in any event nearly all indigenous and remains, therefore, unaffected.
The fine b/w and colour photographs are by Dick Scott and Hans van Dyk.
"Best wishes Bridget Oppenheimer Harry Oppenheimer" is handwritten on the front free endpaper of this perfectly preserved copy.
The laminated photographic dustjacket - no blurb on the flaps - the green Skivertex boards, silver-lettered to the front, the plain cornflower endpapers and the 78 pp of illustrated gloss-art text and index are otherwise unmarked and near-mint.
