Hackett (p 112): "A record similar to the author's earlier volume, 'Our Regiments in South Africa' [see the previous lot]. A directory of Colonial Volunteer Corps (ie those outside the British Isles, including those raised in South Africa as well as Australia, New Zealand and India and Ceylon) and their work in the South African campaign.

"The information is drawn from official despatches other reliable published accounts and private accounts furnished by officers in the field."

The blue cloth-boards are blind-ruled on both faces and the spine is gilt-lettered. They remain good-looking despite light bumping at the extremities. The plain navy endpapers have started to crack and the lower rear hinge has loosened. The xii + 497 pp of unillustrated text and index (and one publisher's announcement page) are unmarked but foxed early and late with intermittent light foxing in between.
