This 182 pp advertiser-led memorial brochure is now seldom seen. The colour-printed green card covers are sunned at the spine. Only one of the text illustrations is in colour, but the brochure is well illustrated with monochrome halftones.
The foreword was by the then administrator of the Orange Free State, J J Fouche, who was later a South African president.
By the middle of the 20th century the economy of the province was moving from agriculture dominance to gold (mainly Anglo-American around Welkom) and diamond mining (the area of the Jagersfontein "big hole" is a fifth larger than Kimberley's and 14 of the world's 20 most valuable diamonds - only the Kohinoor was found outside Southern Africa - were recovered from Jagersfontein; but Kimberley had better marketing), oil-from-coal production at Welkom, water conservation (the province now has South Africa's two largest storage dams), and some industry.
This is an unmarked good-plus copy.
