An octavo hard cover book in the original white paper covered boards and a black spine, titled in white on the spine with a vignette in black on the front cover, showing an old man in a straw hat; in a price clipped pictorial dust-wrapper. The condition of both cover and dust-wrapper is very good with hardly any shelf wear but slight soiling to the white paper. 117 pages, illustrated throughout with drawings by C. F. Tunnicliffe and Raymond Sheppard; illustrated end-papers. The Nobel Prize in Literature 1954 was awarded to Ernest Hemingway "for his mastery of the art of narrative, most recently demonstrated in The Old Man and the Sea, and for the influence that he has exerted on contemporary style". This was the first illustrated Jonathan Cape edition to appear after the Nobel prize was awarded.
