As we have not yet seen a very good or better copy of this now rare provincial survey, the attraction of the present copy is that it is complete and would be fairly inexpensive to repair.
The main defects of our copy are the spine cover starting to tear from the covers, loose binding, half the marbled front free endpaper missing and six leaves badly repaired with non-archive tape - the half-title, an index leaf and four text leaves.
For the rest, the illustrated text and index - running to 420 large quarto pages - are printed on coated paper that has retained its colour and brightness.
The book's attraction, to the province's farmers and others, is the comparison it offers with conditions and ahievements more than a hundred years ago.
The main contents include chapters on history, sheep, cattle and horse breeding and farming, crops and fruit farming, forestry, climate and rainfall and minerals and mining, complemented by an equal number of chapters on the cities and towns and the districts and their farms - many of these retaining the same names today.
This 2.7 kg book - more when packed - will attract additional postage.
