The 17 daily issues of "The Pretoria Friend" were published as "the authorised medium for official news" during the occupation of Pretoria at the instance of Lord Stanley, the British Army Press Censor. Each issue of 4 pp carried, in English and Dutch, "news, military government notices, proclamations and advertisements".
This clean and unfolded set is preserved in a 440 x 280 x 35 mm half-bound green and black goatskin solander (presentation) box with a dummy spine and base, five raised bands with gilt rules and a gilt-on-black spine title panel.
Complete runs in the fine condition of this set are rare.
