Maroon cloth-boards, blind-ruled to the upper faces and gilt-embossed titling to the spines, plain cornfield endpapers, colour frontispieces + 1102 b/w figures in the text + frontispiece and 25 other inserted colour plates (most by Cythna Letty and derived from Flowering Plants of South Africa, 1940).

Vol I. xiv + 1-494 pp of text + 11 pp of index.

Vol II. pp 495-990 pp of text + 4 appendixes (including glossary and bibliography) + 11 pp of index.

CONDITION. It's rare to be able to source such a near-perfect 78-year-old set. No dustjackets as publishes, boards in fine condition, contents complete, unmarked and undiscoloured, except (1) for names in ink of previous owners on front free endpapers, (2) foxing of the free endpaper versos and the opposite pages (for Vol I, this is the frontispiece verso) and (3) scattered foxing spots on top page-edges of both volumes.

For the specialist without one, set in this condition is effectively priceless, although we have had to hazard a reserve and an estimate.
