The author was the editor of Bona, director of the Institute of South African Languages and partner in the advertising agency, BBDO (SA). He authored 'Path of Blood: the rise and conquest of Mzilikazi', 'Rule of Fear: the life and times of Dingane, King of the Zulu' and 'Hill of Destiny: The life and times of Moshesh,' founder of the Basotho.

The author enjoyed close relationships with Chief Mangosuthu Gatsha Buthelezi and King Cyprian Bhekuzulu Nyangayezizwe kaSolomon (1948-1968). At the coronation of King Goodwill at Nongoma in 1970, the author was the only (white) person allowed into the royal stockade to witness the slaughter of a bull by the impi.

Peter Becker died in an accident in 1984.
