[A pocket accounts book, titled on the upper cover:] ‘W.A.’s / Accounts / 1846 / 1847 / 1848’ [and including some ‘historic’ accounts back to 1844]. 12mo (6 ¾ x 4 inches; 172 x 102 mm). 72 pp. of entries detailing payments to individuals, including paying $100 for his eldest son, Robert Brayton Almy (1831-1896) to go to California [paid 7. Feb. 1849]); other family members mentioned include Pardon Almy, Thomas Almy, Oliver Almy. Non-family members include businessmen, craftsmen, farm workers and domestic workers. Also included, are details of the work done on the farm house and farm buildings, and the cost of seasonal tasks, like filling the ice-house. Marbled wrappers, paper label on the upper cover.
“When William Almy was born on 10 October 1798, in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts, United States, his father, Thomas Almy, was 23 and his mother, Sarah Gifford, was 19. He married Loransa Swazey on 24 December 1822, in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts, United States. He lived in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts, United States in 1881. He died on 28 December 1881, in Bristol, Massachusetts, United States, at the age of 83, and was buried in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.” (FamilySearch)
