Austin accompanied the British military force sent to quell a mutiny among native troops in Uganda 1897. The column traveled through some of the richest game lands in East Africa, enjoying sport along the way. Lion was bagged on the Athi Plain, elephant near the Kiboko River, and gazelle and wildebeest near Lake Elmenteita. The bulk of the narrative describes the terrain of the region and the military campaign (Czech, p. 12).
Original brick red cloth with gilt spine titles, titles dulled but legible. Original endpapers firm and tight. Scattered light foxing. Well illustrated with photo plates and folding map.
