Half leather with marbled boards, decorative spine. Top gilt edged, book plate of fep. Some wear to edges.
Diocleciano Das Neves (1829-1883) was born in Portugal.
He was appointed as head of the customs office in Lourenco Marques in 1855. In 1859 he entered a new phase in his life and became a hunter and trader. He was a fierce opponent of slave trade but was in favour of the ivory trade.
This is an account of his hunting in the Transvaal where he hunted, Elephant, Buffalo and lion.
