100 pages, numerous illustrations, later nineteenth-century half cloth and speckled boards, all edges marbled, original front wrapper mounted to the front pastedown of the volume; seems to have originally been issued in wrappers, binding lightly rubbed and faded, text with light toning and foxing, occasional stains, dampstaining affecting very edge but generally not touching text, still overall very good-.

Humorous account of Dr. Eisele and Baron Beisele's attendance at the Leipzig Gymnastics Festival, as well as their antics around the town. Imitating the popular genre of travel literature, the fictional pair was sent on travels around Europe after gaining notoriety in the Munich Fliegende Blätter, a comic newspaper. Eisele and Beisele's fame spread and the two were celebrated with their likenesses reproduced and events put on in their honor. Strauss even wrote a short piece celebrating the fictional pair: Eisele- und Beisele Sprünge-Polka, Op. 202.
