Fransen (1931-2017) worked in a number of museums around South Africa and at times was Curator of the Stellenbosch Museum, Groot Constantia and the Michaelis Collection. He lectured in art at the University of Natal and published widely on art and architecture during his lifetime. Laubscher (1927-2013) studied art in Cape Town before moving to London and then Paris. He and his wife, Claude Bouscharain, who he met in Paris, moved back to South Africa in 1951. He exhibited his work from that time and he founded and ran the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town for the next 25 years. His artworks, reflecting the brilliant colours of southern Africa, have steadily gained an appreciative following and command ever higher prices.
