Second revised edition of one of the earliest comparative grammars between English and Afrikaans, written by the Rev. S. J. du Toit, editor of the Patriot drukpers and driving force behind the first Afrikaans language movement. In the preface he writes, "The vernacular language spoken in South Africa is generally called Dutch, but only a superficial knowledge of it is required to see that it is quite a separate language, as regards its dictionary as well as its grammar." Du Toit further states that the first edition had quickly sold out and that, rather surprisingly, every nine out of ten copies were sold to English customers who wished to learn Afrikaans.

Copies of the first (1897) and second revised editions (1902) are scarce!
