An important treatise on geology of gold by Edward John Dunn, the Director of the Geological Survey of Victoria from 1904 to 1912. In addition to a detailed description on geology of gold in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, this momentous compendium also contains 163 b&w plates at the rear, with numerous maps, plans, scetches, diagrams, sections, etc. Very scarce item.
Dunn was a pioneer in South African geology, having given the first description of the Pretoria Series under the name of Lyndenburg Beds, and the name of Dwyka to the famous glacial conglomerate. His knowledge of the geology of these countries, especially in regard to the occurrence of gold, is perhaps unique. Dunn was also elected President of the Royal Society of Victoria in 1906.
