The author initially started writing a history of the pioneer Afrikaners in West and South West Africa but soon realised that he could write a whole book dedicated to the hunting adventures of the old Thirst Land Trekkers. The three personalities who feature prominently in this book were the career hunters Pieter Botha, Jan Labuschagne, and Daan Robbertse.
