Inscribed by author, with a loosely inserted typewritten poem by author, signed and dated. Limited edition of 150 copies, the first 25 printed on handmade paper, of which this is copy no. 10.
Hrvoje Ostojić (1909 – 1989) was a Croatian native and emigrant writer from Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was born in Sarajevo in a family of Croats originally from Povalje on the island of Brač. Even in his student days, he wrote songs. He graduated from grammar school and the Trade Academy in Zagreb. He published poems, stories and novellas in newspapers and magazines such as Mladost, Svijet, Omladina, Novo doba, Venac and elsewhere. He moved to South Africa in 1934. Until the Second World War, he appeared regularly in Zagreb's Svijet in the column titled Letter from South Africa - Stories from the 'golden' city with his stories. He remained in South Africa until the end of his life. In 1947, he married the Slovenian Saša Raža. In 1950, he co-initiated Mali novina, a bimonthly magazine from Johannesburg in Croatian, for South Africa and Rhodesia. He edited the paper, which was published for two years.
