Harry Wolhuter was a former member of Steinaecker’s Horse corps during the Anglo-Boer War and was appointed as a game ranger in the Sabi Game Reserve (later Kruger National Park) in 1902. The book tells the story of his days in the bush, his efforts to preserve the wild life and his encounters with dangerous animals, poachers, tourists, the dogs and horses who served him and his wartime experiences. His account of being attacked by lions is a legendary tale of courage.
