The acount on Portuguese Nyassalynd and The Nyassa Chartered Company (Companhia Do Nyassa), with 12 full-page photographic plates (including frontispiece), 12 in-text sketches and 2 large multiple folding maps. The photographs, which are here reproduced, have been provided by the Nyassa Company.

Two multiple folding maps in pocket at the rear are titled:

1) Map of the Territories of The Nyassa Company (Companhia Do Nyassa). (58 x 41 cm);

2) The Territories of The Nyassa Company. Constituted by Royal Charter. London, August 1899. (104 x 76,5 cm).

This momentous work also includes the two important appendices:

1) Appendix A: "The Mozambique budget for 1896-97.";

2) Appendix B: with "The Decree of Concession (or Charter) of the Nyassa Company" (Decree, granting to a Portuguese Company, to be formed by the firm of Bernardo Daupias & Co., the Administration and Working of various Territories in the Province of Mozambique, with all associated articles);"Royal Decrees"; "Decrees"; "Town of Ibo", etc.

The "Chapter IV" on the Nyassa Company has been written by Sir (Edward) Robert Pearce Edgcumbe (1851-1929), a pioneer of small holdings movement and author, by whom also the views of places on the East Coast of Africa have been furnished from his sketch-book.

This is an extremely rare copy of this precious work, hard to find even in National and University Libraries - and the only first editon, first impression copy selling on internet!

Publisher's red cloth hardcovers; Text in English; Collation complete - False title, Frontispiece, Title page, vi, [2], 295 pages, with illustrations and 2 multiple folding maps in special pocket at the back of the volume; Ex-library copy with a few usual markings (library number embossed to the bottom of the spine, stamp to the title page, library number and a few annotations by pencil to the front and rear free endpapers). Binding is strong, tight and firm, with usual shelf wear and wears from the use, joints and hinges are whole and stable. Boards and spine with some bumping more to the extremities, some discolouration stains, spine sunned, title partly faded. Red cloth without tears, only little scuffed to the corners which are also bumped. Pocket at the rear is whole and stable keeping the maps well preserved. Text block is in excellent condition, all pages bright and clear, no any foxing or marks, internally a rare copy in this condition. Both maps well preserved, whole and without tears, bright and clean. Bigger map with a small ex-library stamp near title. A well preserved copy.
