'This is the first book to deal with all aspects of St. Helena's postal history and stamps, starting with the establishment of the first Post Office in 1815, the year in which Napoleon landed on the island in exile.
The handstamps, cancellations, and Boer War censor marks are illustrated and classified, and all the stamps are fully described up to 1971, the 150th anniversary of the death of Napoleon on the island.
The book contains a diagram of the Perkins Bacon plate to facilitate the plating of the first issues, as well as a rarity guide to the stamps printed from this plate, including the many varieties of surcharge.
The 21 Appendices also contain tables of rates of postage, varieties and printings of the Colony's Badge issue of George V, early letters, covers and postcards, and many other items to interest the postal historian.
Much historical information on the island will be found in the book's 208 pages, containing numerous illustrations and 4 pages in colour, including a map.' - editor's note
