The 2nd (Revised) Edition of this standard work, illustrated by the author. Nelson. 1967. 298pp. Small 8vo. With a wonderful full page inscribed dedication to the artist's bank manager in Duiwelskloof dated August 11th. 1969, and including a fine original signed sepia drawing of a lioness, also dated 1969. An annotation by the author states that this is a copy of a sketch he made of a lioness gazing at his car at Satara, Kruger National Park, in July 1935. 

Charles Astley-Maberly was a natural history artist and illustrator of multiple books including, notably, Harry Wolhuter's Memories of a Game Ranger (see Lot 286) and several works by T.V. Bulpin.
