Red cloth-boards, with gilt lettering and rules to the spine, plain endpapers, and, for each volume, 342 pp of text and 20 pp of publisher's announcements; the only illustrations are the sepia frontispieces to each volume:
- Vol 1. Rhodes seated in formal dress; there is a damp-stain at the spine (see image) but the portrait are is undamaged
- Vol 2. Tissue-protected vignette of Rhodes's death-mask
The boards of Vol 1 are lightly edge-chipped; those of Vol 2 more so (see images); but both volumes present well and are in very good condition overall - square and tightly bound, no binding cracks, complete, unmarked and undiscoloured except for sunned endpapers and the Vol 1 frontispiece already noted
