This work was one of the earliest major comprehensive studies devoted specifically to the stapeliads — the remarkable stem-succulent plants including genera such as; Stapelia, Huernia, Caralluma and Orbea (many species then placed elsewhere). It helps organise a confusing group where many species had been poorly described or misidentified.
