18th Fighter Bomber Wing.... it's Saga of the Korean Conflict in the Far East.

Hardcover edition published in 1951. Pages 146. The contents in good condition. The white carton boards and blue spine areas have lots of shelf wear.

Each squadron of the 18th is mentioned with abundant black and white photographs.

Of particular interest is the 2nd South African Air Force Squadron - The Flying Cheetahs - the hardy air warriors from the Union of South Africa. Legendary figures for their courage, wit and camaraderies.

At the rear is a chapter called Hall of Fame. Two South Africans are honoured here. Commandant Johann Philip Derk Blaauw & Commandant Servaas van Breda Theron.

Commandant Johann Philip Derk Blaauw: During WW2 he flew 490 missions.... has piloted 17 different types of military planes and nearly 100 F-51 missions over Korea.

Commandant Servaas van Breda Theron: After WW2 he returned to South Africa and stayed in the South African Air Force. In 1946 he was awarded the Air Force Cross. He went on to command 2 Squadron SAAF and served in the Korean War from September 1950 to March 1951, flying Mustangs. He received a Bar to his DSO for his service in Korea. (wikipedia)
