A most interesting work by the wife of Evelyn Smythies, a forestry officer in India’s Kumaon region and Nepal. Mrs. Smythies relates numerous episodes of hunting tiger, panther, goral and other game, including descriptions of hunts with foreign dignitaries and wealthy sportsmen. In one particularly hair-raising episode, she fell to the ground as an enraged tiger tore apart her machan. Only her husband’s quick and accurate shot saved her from a fatal mauling.

Original black cloth with gilt spine titles, cloth slightly rubbed. In a fair to good unclipped dust jacket with pieces missing at toe and spine head. Tape reinforcement on the inside of the jacket but not showing through.

Well illustrated with numerous photos.
