Signed by Samuel 'Cron' Cronwright-Schreiner (member of the Legislative Assembly, Cape Colony),  introduction, the 'trekbokke' and the 'trek' of 1896 (S.C. Cronwright-Schreiner), the trekbokke (Thomas Pringle, David Livingstone, W.C.Scully, Sir John Fraser), note on 'migration', the ostrich, the zambesi falls, illustrations include one of the author on the karoo veld in the great 'trek' of 1896, with springbok ram and cape-cart, more than one hundred miles from the railway, in the district of prieska, publisher's advertisments for the author's and Olive Schreiner's books at end, 144 pages, 130 x 195mm, owner's stamps to endpapers and title page (4 stamps in all), condition: very good.

The book contains articles and references to the migratory Springboks of South Africa by men who have had personal acquaintance with the subject. 'It seems to me that the days of the great treks have passed and that it it cannot be without interest to naturalists and hunters that a record should be made.' (from the introduction).

The book belonged to Dr. C. Pridmore Andrew of Johannesburg, brother of Stephen Andrew, translator of literary works into Esperanto, including, 'The Story of an African Farm'.

'The Migratory Springboks of South Africa' is signed by the author with the line, ' to be returned'. This with marginalia, pertinent to the narrative, suggests that this was the authors' personal copy. He is known to have resided at the Strand at this time. All in pencil.
