A fascinating account of the author's 44 years as a game ranger at Kruger National Park in South Africa where he began his career in 1902.

First published in 1948 after the author's retirement. In it the author recalls his experiences and observations from 44 years,as a ranger in the Kruger National Park. The book offers a record of his life and work over those years, including interesting recollections from his adventures at the time of the Boer War. Memorable are his observations of the animals, birds and other wild life and vegetation of the African landscape.

C T Astley-Maberly, who edited the original manuscript at the author's request, was also a professional artist specialising in wildlife subjects and provided the artwork and photographs for the book.
