A comprehensive treatise consisted of two parts (Metalliferous Deposits & Non-Metallic Deposits) with multiple folding color map in frontispiece, 7 plates at the rear (of which one is multiple folding map) and 34 in-text b&w photographic illustrations.

With two chapters on "Gold":

"The photographs with which the Report is illustrated were taken (with one exception, viz., Fig. I on p. 5) by myself, the smaller pictures with a Cooke-Sanderson camera and the large one (fig. 4, p. 9) with an Alvista panoramic camera. Enlargements of these photographs and of others taken by me are exhibited in the Pietermaritzburg Museum. A collection of rocks and minerals made by myself, while gathering material for the report, is exhibited in the same museum; and a similar collection has been presented to the Imperial Institute in London. An examination of these collections will much assist the correct understanding of the geological descriptions of the ore-occurrences referred to in the Report.

Original green cloth hardover; Text in English; Collation complete - Title page, Multiple folding color map in frontispiece, 155 pages, with 7 plates at the rear (of which one is multiple folding map) and 34 text figures; Binding is stable, tight and firm, with usual shelf wear, covers slightly soiled and with some discoloration. Boards and spine with slight rubbing, extremities and corners bumped. Cloth little frayed to the joints at few places, othervise hinges and joints are whole and stabile. Both free endpapers and paste downs with some age tanning. Pages/text block very clean and bright, with some yellowing, no foxing or markings throughout except a few small and light foxing dots to the title page and two maps and plates. A sound copy of this scarce book.
