No title page, catalogued from the cover, 232 unnumbered pages of full-page photographic illustrations with captions beneath, maroon gilt decorated paper covered boards, worn around the edges, floral patterned endpapers, bookplate on the front paste-down endpaper.

A South African Bibliography, volume 4, page 353, one copy listed. Publication date between 1902 and1910 - "Orange River Colony" used in captions.

This photographic survey of South Africa was published shortly after the Anglo-Boer War. Internal evidence dates the work to between 1902 and 1910, there are captions referring to the "Orange River Colony" prior to the formation of the Union of South Africa. The volume forms part of Dennis Edwards' series of illustrated South African albums and appears to be an enlarged successor to Picturesque South Africa (1899). It includes views of the principal towns, public buildings, landscapes, mines, railways, African and colonial life.

The firm of Dennis Edwards & Co. was started in 1884 as an advertising agency for up-country newspapers and soon expanded into high-quality printing, lithography, bookbinding, and photography publishing and came to monopolise the luxury travel souvenir market.
