Hackett (R.G.) South African Boer War Books, An illustrated bibliography of English language publications relating to the Boer War of 1899-1902, Privately Printed, London 1994, page 92, ‘An account of the 3rd Leicestershire Regiment from the day it was embodied in 1902 until its return from South Africa. The militia battalion arrived at Cape Town on April14, 1902, too late to take a significant part in the war. From the start it was broken up into small detachments and dispersed along the blockhouse lines in north eastern Cape Colony. The headquarters section was directed to Knapdaar close to the Orange River Colony border. In late May the detachment was brought down to Steynsburg in an effort to entrap Boer commandos being driven westward, but the operation proved unnecessary as by June 1 peace was concluded. The Regiment sailed to from East London on Sept. 9, 1902. Details are given in respect of other detachments and a medal roll of the 3rd Batt. included.’
