The book has been written at the request of Anglo American Corporation of South Africa Ltd., Rhodesian Selection Trust Ltd. and of The British South Africa Company. Contains multiple folding "MAP OF SOUTHERN AFRICA: Showing The British South Africa Company's Sphere of Influence in 1891, and all place names reffered to this book"; and Sketch Map of Northern Rhodesia. With "Foreword" by the late Colonel the Lord Robins, former President of The British South Africa Company.

"It is a pleasure to me to commend Mr. Williams's book. It accomplishes something that has never been attempted before, namely, a complete exposition of the history up to the present day of mining law and administration in Northern Rhodesia and how this has been evolved.

On this immensely important, yet technical, subject the author has brought to bear a clarity of presentation which will make the book both of service and of interest not only to the lawyer, but to everyone who is interested in the mining industry, no matter from what angle. To those who, like myself, are intimately connected with the evolution of the mining industry, this will be an invaluable standard work.

Mr. Williams provides a succinct guide to the history of the Rhodesias out of which sprang the development, particularly in mining, which has made modern administration and civilised standards possible throughout the Federation.

He examines the origins of mining law and the part played by The British South Africa Company in opening up the country and in developing its mineral resources. He also examines, with great care and skill, the development of the Northern Rhodesia law affecting every aspect of mining from the first Mining Proclamation of 1912 right up to the present day, when these matters are enshrined in the 1958 Ordinance."

(from the "Foreword" by the late Colonel The Lord Robins, K.B.E., D.S.O. former President of The British South Africa Company)
