Founded in 2005 as general, second-hand book merchants, The Book Shoppe is a well-established, traditional brick-and-mortar bookshop where the emphasis is on providing books that are carefully selected by experienced buyers for a wide readership - from obscure literary fiction, general mass-market publications, children’s books, literary journals, an informed selection of philosophical texts, popular science books, to a large and ever increasing selection of both local and international poetry. We regularly host literary events, poetry performances and film screenings. Since coming under new ownership in 2017, an expansion of our offering has introduced into stock collectible vinyl records and a wider range of rare and collectible books. We now also boast a regularly rotated selection of original art, prints, and maps together with general Africana at competitive prices, books on South African art and photography, modern first editions and unusual books and objects. Before making our books available generally, we process them through our extensive database of requests, that we encourage anyone looking for a specific book to submit their 'wants-list' to.
